5 Self-Defense Moves Every Woman Should Know

Essential Krav Maga techniques that could save your life — practical moves anyone can learn.

Self-defense isn’t about being the strongest person in the room. It’s about knowing what to do when it matters most. Here are five fundamental Krav Maga moves every woman should have in her toolkit.

1. The Palm Strike

Unlike a punch, a palm strike uses the heel of your hand — reducing the risk of injuring your own fingers while delivering maximum impact. Aim for the nose or chin, driving forward with your whole body weight.

2. The Knee Strike

If an attacker gets close, your knee is one of your most powerful weapons. Drive your knee upward into the groin or midsection while pulling the attacker’s shoulders down toward you.

3. The Elbow Strike

In close quarters, elbows are devastating. Swing your elbow horizontally at the attacker’s temple or jaw, keeping your fist tight against your chest for maximum force.

4. The Front Kick

Create distance with a front kick to the knee or midsection. Push through with your heel, not your toes, and lean slightly back for balance and power.

5. The Wrist Release

If someone grabs your wrist, rotate your arm toward their thumb — the weakest point of their grip — and pull sharply. Practice until this becomes instinctive.

The key to all these techniques is practice. Knowing them in theory is one thing; being able to execute them under stress requires regular training. That’s exactly what we do at KravGirls — come try a free class and see for yourself.
